Om prosjektet

The project "Attention, Algorithms, and Social Justice" focuses on innovation in the arts field by supporting artists and art institutions across Europe to a) research and develop new artworks exploring attention, algorithms, and social justice, b) discuss these issues in a transdisciplinary symposium in Denmark, c) explore new formats of exhibiting art in an exhibition in Norway and Greece, d) publish and disseminate the findings on a web platform based in France, e) involve new, diverse, and broad audiences, including marginalized groups. The EU grant theme the project responds to is "Social Inclusion." The project aims to increase social inclusion in the following ways: by developing new artworks and critical artistic tools to engage with algorithms, by including marginalized artists and giving them the opportunity to develop new projects as well as showcasing their work, and by involving a large and broad audience including marginalized groups in the exhibitions, public programs, and online platform. This is key to genuinely and with integrity respond to digital technologies and work towards more equal and equitable approaches to algorithms, while considering accessibility for visually impaired and those otherwise excluded from many screen-based technologies. All project partners and associated partners actively work with social inclusion in their strategy and activities, for instance by supporting artists from marginalized groups and building ongoing relations with diverse audiences and local communities. These objectives respond to Objective 2 of the call, "Innovation." The innovative dimension of the project applies to technological developments in art, supports critical thinking with regard to ongoing socio-technological changes, and comprises novel methodologies of art and exhibition making that will benefit several European audiences, geographies, and contexts.
