Prosjektbeskrivelse

Prosjektbeskrivelse fra prosjektets søknad til Kreativt Europa:

What if live performances could travel powered only by the wind? That’s the idea behind S.E.A (Sailing Export of Arts) – a European project that wants to rethink the way artists move around the world by using sailing as a sustainable form of transport.

As the cultural sector needs to reduce its environmental impact, S.E.A aims to reconnect with Europe’s strong maritime heritage and build a transnational arts network travelling by sea. With thousands of kilometres of coastline, countless islands and overseas territories, Europe is perfectly placed to invent a new, climate-friendly way of sharing the arts.

Some artistic companies are already sailing from port to port, bringing performances to places that are often far from major cultural centres. S.E.A now wants to support and expand these pioneering initiatives by creating a true cultural archipelago – a network of ports ready to welcome artistic projects arriving by boat, and to reinvent how culture reaches audiences.

To make this happen, S.E.A will develop:

  • The SEA Platform – to connect, support and promote artistic projects that travel by sail;
  • The Cultural Harbours Map – identifying ports that can host sea-traveling performances;
  • A carbon impact calculator and comparison tool for “Blue Mobility,” to measure – and demonstrate – the environmental benefits of sailing. A network where maritime adventure, cultural diversity and ecological transition all move forward together.
