Om prosjektet
Our transformational project TYPUS develops according to objective 2 of the Culture strand sub-programme and the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, whose pledge is to leave no one behind. It aims to adopt an inclusive and interactive approach to theatre-making to facilitate marginalized young people's social inclusion while identifying, exploring, and nurturing their potential creative talents. It uses applied theatre to address the lack of involvement in the civic society of many young Europeans, which leads to a growing increase in deviant behaviours. Involving an international consortium of partners with experience in the field of intercultural theatre, applied theatre, social inclusion, and justice, TYPUS develops an interactive theatre-making approach centered on Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" to encourage the reintegration of marginalized young people in contemporary society, foster audience engagement both in real life and digitally, and train a new professional figure who possesses both drama skills and social sciences' and judicial competencies. The project will develop and implement a new pilot Shakespeare workshop targeting young people in the community and others in prison or serving community sentences (aged between 14-27) of different mother tongues, ethnic groups, and diverse social backgrounds. With the support of a team of other professional figures, the project beneficiaries will be invited to re-appropriate the iconic story of social unrest in this Shakespearean tragedy through the lens of the present legal system in each partner country. According to a transformative approach and starting from territorial best practices, each partner will develop and share Shakespearean tools replicable in the different contexts and with other target groups. Our immersive, interactive rewritings of "Romeo and Juliet" will be presented to very mixed live audiences and disseminated and adapted, deploying the multiple languages and codes of social media.
